Our funeral home is deeply involved in consumer education. We can offer presentations on a variety of funeral service topics through our Outreach Program. We have spoken to thousands of consumers, offering valuable information on Social Security and Veteran Benefits, Funeral Customs, Prearrangements and the Grief Process, to name a few.

If you are a member of a local church, civic, fraternal, business or social group and would like for us to come and speak to your group about any funeral service-related topic -- FREE OF CHARGE -- please contact us today at

Attention Local Teachers: We can provide information and tours of the funeral home for your classes, offering students an opportunity to discuss the many social aspects surrounding the need for funerals. We can provide an environment so they may freely ask questions and participate in frank and open discussions on the many values of a funeral, its customs and traditions, while instilling in them respect and honor for the dead. We have offered this program for many years and is a great opportunity to introduce death education in an effective way. This program is recommended for students in the seventh grade or higher.

Funeral Etiquette

In an effort to educate Michigan motorists on proper procedures when encountering a funeral procession, we would like to outline a few important elements for the safety of motorists and the safety of those in the funeral procession.

Michigan Vehicle Code:

  • Each vehicle in a funeral procession will be marked with a fluorescent orange funeral flag. Typically, a funeral procession will be lead by a safety vehicle that will be marked with one or more flags and may be supplied with flashing or rotating yellow or purple lights. The use of purple lights is reserved ONLY for funeral vehicles. The last vehicle in a funeral procession may be marked with more than one funeral flag.
  • Funeral processions have the right of way over all vehicles except for emergency vehicles (fire, ambulance, and police), including intersections containing stop signs and where traffic lights are red. It is unlawful for any vehicle to pass through a funeral procession at any time. Doing so can result in a civil infraction.

As a friendly reminder, please be courteous as a funeral procession approaches.

If you are part of a funeral procession, your responsibilities are to:

  • Drive with your headlights on BRIGHT to further identify your vehicle apart from other motorists.
  • Follow in line at a safe distance from the vehicle ahead of you, but not so far back that waiting traffic may interpret the vehicle ahead of you to be the last vehicle in the procession.
  • Be alert of your surroundings at all times while traveling in procession. Even though funeral processions travel at slower than posted speeds for the safety of all drivers, situations can occur where drivers may need to react to driving conditions.
