Campbell, Charles D. of Swan Creek, Twp., passed away Saturday, February 20, 2010, at Hoyt Nursing and Rehab Centre. Age 86 years. Charles was born on December 21, 1923, in Springfield, Missouri to the late Tillman and Zeda (Finney) Campbell. He married Virginia E. Osborn on June 23, 1951. She predeceased him on August 25, 1986. Charles served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He then worked on the local railroad before returning to the Army to serve during the Korean War. Charles began his career in law enforcement in 1952 as a Police Officer for the Saginaw Police Department. He served as Chief of Police from 1979 until his retirement in 1983. Charles was a faithful member of Warren Avenue Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, serving on many committees. He enjoyed bowling, golf, reading, and especially spending time with his family. Surviving are two sons, three daughters and their spouses, Gregory (Themis) Campbell, Ann Arbor; Kevin (Debbie) Campbell, St. Charles; Janine (Olivier) Dulac, Rochester Hills; Rochelle (Mike) Jarabek, Saginaw; Linda Luna, Saginaw; 12 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, Ava Eleanor Yaklin, and another great-grandchild on the way; two brothers and one sister, William (Doris) Campbell, Robert (Joan) Campbell, and Susan Campbell. He was also predeceased by one sister, M. Josephine Kern and one grandson, Adam Campbell.
Memorial service will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 27, 2010, at Warren Avenue Presbyterian Church, 612 Millard St. The Rev. Thomas B. Cundiff will officiate. Inurnment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave. on Friday from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m., where a police honor guard and a prayer service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Richard Popard will officiate. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be given to Warren Avenue Presbyterian Church.
