Silvernail, George C., Carrollton Twp., passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010, at the V.A. Community Living Center after an extended illness. Age 76 years. George was born on May 23, 1933 in Cass City, to the late Homer and Zora (Pfahn) Silvernail. He married Viola E. Feinauer on December 22, 1956 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where they were members. She survives him. George served in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on April 5, 1955. He was employed by Central Transport as a truck driver prior to his retirement. He was an active attendee of the Eleanor Frank Senior Center and enjoyed playing in the euchre tournaments held there. Surviving besides his wife of 53 years, are his son, Jeffrey Silvernail of Stockbridge, MI; grandson, Christopher Silvernail, and his fiancee’, Sara Kushion of Hemlock, MI; former daughter-in-law, Carol J. Silvernail of Saginaw, MI; special nephew, David Crow of Clio, MI; his brother, Dale (Paula) Silvernail of Saginaw, MI; his sister, Marie Zielinski of Shelby Twp., MI; a brother-in-law, Eugene Feinauer of Freeland, MI; also several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Irene Dusek and Blanche Keene, also a brother, Wayne Silvernail. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Nurses, Doctors, and staff of the VA Community Living Center and palliative care unit for the excellent care they provided to George during his final months.
Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 22, 2010, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 808 Weiss. The Rev. Charles F. Buckhahn will officiate with burial in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, with military honor guard under the auspices of V.F.W. #1859 Carrollton/Zilwaukee. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave. on Sunday, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., then at the church on Monday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
