Edward G. Wenzel

Loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and longtime Saginaw pharmacist was called home to his Lord on Friday, November 13, 2009, at his home. Age 82 years. Ed was born on June 20, 1927, in Saginaw to the late Gustav E. and Sophie M. (Herzog) Wenzel. He served in the U.S. Navy. He married Marilyn Joyce Turek on May 7, 1954, in Saginaw. She survives him. Prior to his retirement, he was a pharmacist and owner-operator of Faler Drugs on Court St. for over 60 years. Ed was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, having served as a Trustee and with the usher team, the Michigan Pharmacist Association, past president of the Saginaw County Pharmacy Association, the Pioneer Club, past president of the Driver’s Safety Committee. Ed loved hunting, fishing, pontoon rides, spending summers at the cabin on Wiggins Lake, Gladwin with his family, and watching Westerns on TV. Surviving besides his wife, Joyce, are their six children and their spouses, Kimberley A. Wenzel, St. Charles; Michael E. (Carolyn) Wenzel, Saginaw; Sandra J. Lieber, Saginaw; Brian J. (Marla) Wenzel, Oxford; Kevin E. (Casey) Wenzel, Saginaw; Scott (Tina) Wenzel, Freeland; 12 grandchildren, Stephanie, Amber, Anthony, Cody, Ryan, Brett, Mikayla, Kyle, Alexis, Zachary, Taylor and Jordan; two brothers and one sister, Melvin Wenzel, Frankenmuth, Doris (Howard) Zettel, Saginaw; Charles (Shirley) Wenzel, Bay City; and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by one brother, Adolph Boesenecker, two sisters-in-law, Lois Boesenecker and Arline Wenzel. Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5335 Brockway Rd. The Rev. Mark P. Buckert will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens where military honor guard will be conducted under the auspices of American Legion Post 439. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave. on Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m., then at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
