Mrs. Geraldine A. Townsend

Mrs. Gerry A. Townsend Saginaw Twp., Michigan Gerry passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at the age of 95 years. Geraldine Ann Hutfilz was born on February 15, 1927, in Hemlock, MI, to the late Walter and Elsie (Stroebel) Hutfilz. She married H. James Townsend on April 21, 1951. Jim predeceased her on November 18, 2002, along with their son, Jan, on January 11, 1972. Prior to her retirement, Gerry had owned and operated Action Collection Bureau for 15 years. She was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Carrollton, a life member of Germania Country Club and VFW (1859), Lions Club of Carrollton, Opti-Mrs., American Legion (439), Saginaw Valley Antique Society and LFA. Back in the day, she loved bowling, playing bingo, playing cards at the farm, and up until her death rooting for her longest love of the Detroit Tigers. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Terri (Tom) Nelson, Saginaw; three grandchildren, Tom (Christy) Nelson, Jr., Linwood, and their children, Steven (Rachael, and their son, Abel), Kyleigh, Garrett and Carsen; Matthew (Jill) Nelson, Bay City, and their children, Avery and James; Mindi Schember, Saginaw, and her son, Luke; her brother, James (Patti) Hutfilz, Greenville; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her special granddog, Molly; her sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Arnie Grueber. The family would like to give a Thank You to Nicole and Mary, her hospice nurses, who were there with her up until the end; along with her special friends, Doris and Deb. The Celebration of Gerry’s Life will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Messiah Lutheran Church 4140 N. Michigan, Saginaw. The Rev. Philip DeVries will officiate. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave. on Wednesday, October 5th, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., then at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In honor of Gerry, please join us in your casual or Detroit Tigers apparel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Messiah Lutheran Church.
