Joan M. Smith

Joan peacefully went home to be with her Lord on May 9, 2022, while under the care of Lakeview Manor Nursing & Rehab in Tawas City, Michigan. Joan Meredith (Wilcox) Smith was born on February 10, 1931, in St. Charles, Michigan, daughter of the late Archie and Ina (Gilson) Wilcox. Joan was married to Jack E. Smith on June 11, 1949, in Saginaw, Michigan. Joan is survived by her children, Tammy S. Mills (Timothy G. Mills) of Oscoda, MI, James E. Smith of Houghton Lake, MI, and William Smith (Michelle Smith) of Houghton Lake, MI. Joan is also survived by her grandchildren that she loved dearly, Jeremy M. Kocks, Jenna L. Davidson, Nicole M. Penno, Brooke Smith, James Smith Jr., Heather Lavrack, and Carrie; also several great – grandchildren, in which two of them she was blessed to be a part of their lives for many years. She was also predeceased by her parents, Archie and Ina Wilcox; her husband, Jack E. Smith; her sons, Robert A. Smith and Jack E. Smith Jr.; her sister Janet, and her forever son-in-law, Daniel F. Davidson. Joan loved to go out dancing in her younger days, play Bingo, playing records and listening to music, while she sang along in her rocking chair. She loved her rocking chair. Grandma loved to reflect back on past times by sharing many stories with everyone. Joan was a very proud great-grandma and was very involved in the lives of two of them, Andrew D. Littlejohns (AKA "Boo Boo" as she would say) and Olivia L. Davidson (AKA "chubby cheeks" as she would say). Every time she would be with them her face would light right up! Joan always enjoyed going out shopping and to having lunch with her granddaughter, Jenna. They shared a very special bond. She will be missed very much. In accordance with Joan's wishes, she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Jack, in Oakwood Cemetery, Saginaw Twp., Michigan. A private committal service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, any donations made will go towards offsetting Joan’s “end of life” expenses to her granddaughter, Jenna L. Davidson. A special Thank You to the staff at Lakeview Manor Nursing & Rehab Center for their loving care given to Joan.
