    Brent R. Smith

    August 17, 1967 - March 3, 2017

    Smith, Brent R. Bay City, Michigan Our loving husband, father, son, brother, and uncle passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, March 3, 2017. He was born on August 17, 1967, in Saginaw. Brent graduated from Valley Lutheran High School in 1985, and received his associate degree from Delta College in 1990. Brent married Mary B. Atkins on June 24, 1989, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Saginaw. He was currently employed at Covenant Healthcare in property management. Brent’s hobbies included traveling with his family, hunting, fishing and taxidermy. He was an avid Red Wings fan and Secretary of the Bay County Republican Party. Brent was an active member of St. John Amelith Lutheran Church. Surviving besides his wife, Mary, are their three children, Rebecca Elizabeth, Andrew Ramon and Zachery Wawrzyniak; parents, Kent and Janet Smith; sister, Stacy Smith and her children, Nikolas and Amanda Pieknik; brothers-in-law, Norton Atkins Jr., Bill (Linda) Atkins, John Atkins; sisters-in-law, Wendy Jean (Ron) Bocian, Wendy Ann (Rick) Fresorger, and Sue Beagle; Godsons, Charles Glumm, Tim Singer, and Jonathan Fitzpatrick; also many other beloved nephews, nieces, extended family, and very dear friends. Brent was predeceased by his brother, Kent R. Smith II; his grandparents, Allie and Victoria Wawrzyniak, Pressley and Carol Smith; Vera and Howard Bremer; and parents-in-law, Norton and Margaret Atkins. The Celebration of Brent’s Life will be held at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at St. John Amelith Lutheran Church, 1664 Amelith Rd., Bay City, MI. The Rev. Stephen Starke will officiate with burial in St. John Amelith Lutheran Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave., Saginaw, on Tuesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., then at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. John Amelith Lutheran Church or toward a college fund for Brent’s children.
