Ed passed away Friday morning, May 1, 2009, at Covenant – Cooper. Age 89 years. He was born on April 19, 1920 in Clifford, Mich., to the late Alexander and Eva (Fromm) Kabobel. Ed married Margaret A. Roesler on December 17, 1960, in Saginaw, where she survives him. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII in the Asiatic - Pacific Theatre. Prior to his retirement, he first worked as a painter for Adam Meyer; paint salesman for Montgomery Wards; then retiring from General Motors in 1975 as an Inspector after 17 years. Ed was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. #1859, American Legion Post #439, Fraternal Order of Eagles #497; Past Master – Masonic Lodge #54, Elf Khurafeh Shriner; also a Charter member of Resurrection Lutheran Church. Surviving besides his wife, Margaret, are 5 children and their spouses, Fay (Paul) Sudhoff, Saginaw; Edward (Kathy) Kabobel, Jr., Temple, Tx; Cathy Dougherty, Saginaw; Larry (Sheryl) Nachtweih, Saginaw; Rick (Sue) Miller, Saginaw; 23 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grand children; sister’s-in-law, Ella Kabobel and Jackie Kabobel, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two daughters and one son, Marlene Tornberg, Dona Persons and Mike Nachtweih; son-in-law, Bernard Dougherty; also five sisters and five brothers, Emma Adolf, Lydia Krass, Alex Kabobel, Jr., Otto Kabobel, Hilda Sujkowski, twins Frieda Miles and Gotto Kabobel, Eva Lebsack, William Kabobel, and Daniel Kabobel. Funeral Celebration will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2009, at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 2110 Brockway Rd., Saginaw. The Rev. Kathleen Basner will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, where military honor guard will be conducted under the auspices of V.F.W. Post # 1859. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave., on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
