Mrs. Flora (Toots) Golomb
April 27, 1924 - December 27, 2010
Golomb, Mrs. Flora C. (Toots), of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home where she was called to her Eternal home on Monday, December 27, 2010. Age 86 years. Flora was born on April 27, 1924, in Sebewaing, MI, to the late Leonard and Clara (Rummel) Eberlein. She was married to John J. Golomb on July 27, 1946, and he predeceased her on March 30, 1975. She developed her strong work ethics at the Rummel family grocery store in Sebewaing while growing up. She moved to Saginaw and was employed at Saginaw Products during WWII, Grey Iron Foundry, and retired from Saginaw Steering Gear in salary payroll. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and its Ladies Society, Senior Saints, and the funeral luncheon committee, the GM Women’s Club, American Legion Aux. #439, AARP Chapter #305, NAMI, SSG Alumni Club, and volunteered at St. Luke’s Hospital gift shop for many years. Her ‘shut ins’ and other friends would always look forward to her visits because of her sense of humor, pranks, and positive attitude. Laughter, faith, generosity, and love were endless gifts to her family and friends. Her life was devoted to being a good ‘Samaritan’, a proud mother, and grandmother. She loved to travel and work on projects at the home that she built, including her new kitchen. She was always planning bus trips, social gatherings and welcoming guests at her home where she was known by all as a perfect hostess. Flora is survived by her three children and their spouses, James D. (Barbara) Golomb, Northfield, IL; Guy G. (Merry Lynn Thornton) Golomb, Schoolcraft, MI; and Peggy L. Golomb, Saginaw; four beloved grandchildren, Michael Golomb (girlfriend Leah Owens), St. Louis, MO., Julie (Greg) Nicoll, Seattle, WA., Nate Golomb, Grand Rapids, MI., Tyler Golomb, Schoolcraft, MI.; sister-in-law, Dottie Eberlein, Sebewaing, MI; and a great-niece Anna Rivette, Freeland. Her prayers and wishes for a full and healthy future go out to all her special nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was blessed with so many loving and devoted friends who she will miss dearly. Funeral and committal services will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 31, 2010, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 808 Weiss. The Rev. Michael R. Korte will officiate. Private burial will be in Northlawn Cemetery in Sebewaing, MI. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave., Saginaw, on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., then at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
