Jeanette Alice (Ramthun) Scheffler 94 years August 26, 1926 to July 6, 2021 Jeanette Scheffler passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Harbor Springs, Michigan on Tuesday after a long life full of friendships. She had an unwavering faith in her Savior and always found a steadfast home in her church. She assumed the best in everyone and greeted all with a genuine and embracing smile and kindness. She was always our faithful and biggest cheerleader and loved to share all our major and minor accomplishments. Jeanette was born August 26, 1926, in Montague, Michigan, to the late Arthur E. and Alice (Yeager) Ramthun. Her father owned and farmed many acres in Claybanks, Oceana County. Her mother was a wonderful cook and homemaker. Jeanette, the eldest of three, graduated in 1944 from Montague High School and in 1948 from Western Michigan College, Kalamazoo. Her profession was occupational therapy. After graduation, she moved to Saginaw and worked for Easter Seals and Michigan Society for Crippled Children and Adults. Jeanette married Elmer E. Scheffler in 1952 in Saginaw and they had four children, John, Randy, Bonnie and Sue. Jeanette was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Saginaw, where she and Elmer were co-chairpersons of the Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery Board. She also served on the Holy Cross School Board, Senior Adult Ministry, and was instrumental in forming the Beyond These Walls program to broadcast Holy Cross weekly services on local radio. She and her husband owned and operated Four Seasons Tours for many years. In 2005 she moved in with her daughter Bonnie in Ann Arbor, especially enjoying fitness classes at the YMCA and volunteering for Washtenaw Literacy. In 2011 she moved close to her daughter Sue in Harbor Springs, cherishing her friendships at The Village of Hillside and receiving love and care at Pineview Cottage. Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer in 2000; son, Randy in 1967; and brother, James Ramthun in 2019. She is survived by three of her children, John (Sandra) Scheffler, Breckenridge, Colorado; Bonnie (David Bona) Scheffler, Ann Arbor; and Sue (Keith) McGlaughlin, Harbor Springs; two grandchildren, Russell (Shirley) Scheffler, Montague and Jamie (Brad) Bays, Breckenridge, Colorado; sister, Marguerite (Ramthun) Selgert-Behm, Grand Haven; five great-grandchildren, Maddison Bays, Jacob Hall, Samantha Scheffler, Raeley Bays and Andi Bays; and many nieces and nephews and dear friends. Jeanette donated her body to the Anatomical Donations program of the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor. Jeanette’s memorial service is being planned this fall at Zion Lutheran Church, 500 W. Mitchell St., Petoskey, MI. The Reverend Matthew Peters will officiate. Jeanette will be laid to rest next to her husband Elmer and son Randy with a private family burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Saginaw Township, MI. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 600 Court St., Saginaw, MI and Zion Lutheran Church, Petoskey.
