John L. Greene

John L. Greene Saginaw, Michigan Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away at home peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at the age of 88 years. John was born on May 23, 1935, in Saginaw, MI, son of the late John and Lydia (Becker) Greene. John married Joan (Schneller) Greene on May 21, 1955, in Saginaw, where she predeceased him on November 5, 2012. Prior to his retirement in 1983, John was employed at U.S. Graphite as a Floor Inspector. John loved family get-togethers, was a huge sports fan, no matter what the sport. He was especially happy talking with his best friend, Jim Kelly, about all the game plays. He loved word puzzles, watching Gun Smoke and Family Feud, gardening in his yard. His greatest joy in life was being with his loyal, faithful and loving dog, Greta, who passed away one month earlier. He was active in many areas, participating on bowling, blooper ball and golf teams. His artistic talents had him lettering names on many bowling bags. His artwork was on pumpkins, poster boards, and walls at churches. He was on the Board of the U.S. Graphite C.U.; was on the Executive Board of the CAP Council. He felt his greatest achievement was being a driver in President Jimmy Carter’s motorcade, when he came to Buena Vista in the ‘80’s. He was friends with many Congressmen, Senators and others, even traveled to Washington, D.C. many times with them. He was also the Chairman of Retirees of Local #537. He was anticipating the birth of his first great grandson in February 2024. John will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Surviving are John’s three daughters, one son, and their spouses, Terri (Robert) Olk; Jacki Frost; Peggy Reimus, and John J. Greene; four grandchildren, Brian, Steven, Adam (Amanda) and Melissa; three step-grandchildren, Kelly, Sandy, Denise; also nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother, Richard Greene and his son-in-law, Tom Frost. The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to Covenant VNA- Hospice for the loving care they gave to John. The Celebration of John’s Life will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 20, 2023, at Saint Dominic Catholic Church (Sts. Peter and Paul site), 4735 W. Michigan, Saginaw, MI. Rev. Fr. Jack Johnson will officiate. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of his service.
