Mrs. Marilyn Ruth Roekle

Mrs. Marilyn Ruth Roekle Saginaw, Michigan Marilyn Ruth (Vergiels) Roekle of Saginaw, MI was taken to her Heavenly home to be with her Savior on Monday, March 4, 2024, at the age of 91. Marilyn was born November 10, 1932, in Manitowoc, WI, to the late William and Amanda (Winter) Vergiels. She was baptized as a child of God on December 4, 1932, and reaffirmed that baptismal faith on March 30, 1947, at First German Ev. Lutheran Church in Manitowoc, WI. On May 30, 1954, Marilyn married Werner John Roekle at First German. Their marriage was blessed with five children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. While living in Wisconsin, Marilyn worked as a secretary for various companies in Manitowoc and the Kewaunee Public School System. After moving to Saginaw, Michigan in 1972, she was employed by the Saginaw Public School District as a teacher’s aide and librarian for 24 years before retiring in 1996. Marilyn was a member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Saginaw, MI. She was a member of the Women Serving Christ organization and sang in the church choir for many years. She enjoyed doing things together with family and friends. She loved to travel and fish with her husband and enjoyed the winter months spent together in Sun City West, Arizona. Marilyn was predeceased by her spouse, Werner Roekle, on January 23, 2016, after 61 years of marriage; one son, Daniel Roekle, on January 27, 2015; her parents; two sisters, Gertrude Wacker and Dorothy Cherney; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and cousins. Marilyn is survived by two sons, Mark Roekle of Eau Claire, WI; Steven (Lori) Roekle of Myrtle Beach, SC; two daughters and their spouses, Diane (Kenneth) Kennedy of Blind River, Ontario, Canada; Suzanne (Daniel) Rilko of Webster, FL; Daughter-in-law Paula Roekle of Jackson, MI; six grandchildren and their spouses, Christopher (Erin) Roekle of Vero Beach, FL, Sarah (Michael) Foss of Royal Oak, MI, Joshua Rilko of Nashville, TN, Jeremy Rilko of Ashville, NC, Jonathan Roekle of Jackson, MI, Justin (Kaitlyn) Roekle of Janesville, WI; two great-grandchildren, Rian and Aria Roekle of Janesville, WI; one brother-in-law, Victor Roekle of Saginaw, MI; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special thanks to Nancy, Ruth, Shelley and Jan for their friendship and love; Caregivers Margaret, Vernette, Isabelle and Ira; Pastor Naumann and Pastor Buelow; Wellspring Assisted Living and Wellspring Hospice. Cremation has taken place. A Christian funeral will be held 12:00 noon, Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church 1020 Court St. at Bond St. The Rev. David Naumann will officiate. Private burial will be held in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Monday, March 25th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Wakeman Funeral Home, 1218 N. Michigan Ave., Saginaw, and then at the church on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or School, or to Michigan Lutheran Seminary Foundation.
